Maintaining branding in the Compose Box
When you pick a different style for a single share, Maintain branding decides whether that share keeps your Page's own look or uses the style exactly as Echobox designed it.
What does Maintain branding do?
Your logo, typeface, colours, credit line and data sources are taken from the active template for that Page and applied to the style you have picked, so a one-off share still looks like the rest of your feed.
Untick it and the share renders in the Echobox style as designed, with none of your Page's branding applied.
When is it available?
The checkbox appears in the Compose Box when you apply a style to an individual share, and is only available when you have picked one of Echobox's own styles.
If you pick one of your own templates it is greyed out, because your own template already carries your branding. There is nothing to maintain.
Why did my colours not carry over?
Some of your branding always carries across. Some of it only carries when it is safe to.
Always carries across:
- Your logo
- Your typeface
- Your credit line
- Your data sources, meaning where the headline, description and image are taken from
Only carries across sometimes:
- Your text and background colours
Colours behave differently because Echobox styles place the headline in one of two ways. Some print it straight onto the article image. Others print it onto a coloured background or a coloured band. Your text colour is chosen to work against one of those, not both.
Colours carry across only when the style you have picked places its headline the same way your Page's template does. When it does not, everything else still carries and the colours are left as the style designed them.
This is deliberate. Carrying a colour pair onto a style that places its headline differently can leave you with white text on a white background, so the headline disappears on a post that otherwise looks fine.
What if I want the colours anyway?
Edit the style in Studio and set the colours there. Editing a template gives you the full set of controls and a live preview, so you can see the result before it goes out.
