Editing a Template in Studio

You can build and change your own templates in Studio, without waiting on a design being made for you. Every template starts as a copy of an Echobox style, so you are always editing something that already works.

Creating a template

  1. Open Studio from the main navigation.
  2. Find the Echobox style closest to what you want.
  3. Choose Duplicate, and pick the aspect ratio you need.
  4. Give the template a name.

The copy is yours. Editing it has no effect on the Echobox style you copied, and no effect on any other template.

The editor

A template opens with the preview on one side and the controls on the other, grouped into tabs.

General sets the aspect ratio and shows which networks the template can be used on.

Message controls the post text. You choose where the message is taken from, add a prefix or suffix, and set the Preferred link placement.

Elements controls what appears on the image itself: the Article image, the Overlay text, the Category, the Image Credit and your Logo. This is also where you add a Call to action.

Styling holds your branding. Typeface, text colour, background colour and highlight colour, plus the link sticker style and position on story templates.

CSS is there if you want fine control over the layout. LLMs are effective tools for generating and manipulating CSS.

The preview updates as you work, using real article content, so you can see the result before saving.

Saving

Choose Save when you are happy. The template updates everywhere it is being used, on every Page, straight away.

If you have posts already in the queue, open one or two afterwards to see how the change looks before they publish.

Renaming

You can rename a template at any time from the editor. Renaming does not affect which Pages use it.

Names are worth a moment's thought if you run several Pages. A name like "Sport, Instagram" is easier to pick out of a dropdown later than "Copy of Editorial".

Using a template on a Page

Editing a template does not put it on a Page. Once it is saved, go to Settings, choose the Page, open Templates, and select it for the post type you want.

Posts already in your queue keep the image that was built for them when they were created, so editing a template does not restyle anything that is already waiting to publish. Your change applies to posts created from that point on.

To see an edit on a post that is already queued, open it in the Compose Box and apply the template to it again

Can I edit an Echobox style directly?

You can change an Echobox style's branding and content settings: colours, typeface, logo, message sources, link placement, the link sticker, and which elements appear.

A change to an Echobox style applies to every ratio of it, not only the one you had open. Set your colours on Editorial at Vertical (4:5) and Editorial at Square (1:1) and Tall (9:16) pick up the same colours.

You cannot change the layout of an Echobox style. Open the CSS tab on an Echobox style and Studio offers to duplicate it for you, because taking a copy is the only way to take the layout into your own hands.

When you need a layout of your own, or settings that differ between ratios, duplicate the style instead.

Deleting a template

You can delete a template you no longer need.

Check first that no Page is still using it. Go through the Pages you run, open Settings then Templates on each, and move any that point at the template on to a different one. A Page left pointing at a template that no longer exists cannot build its posts.
