Choosing which Template a Page uses

Templates are how Echobox Social decides what each of your Pages publishes. Every Page has its own set, one for each type of post it can produce, and this is where you choose them.

Where to set this

In Echobox Social, go to Settings, choose the Page you want, then open Templates.

You will see three groups: Post, Story and Reel. Each one lists the post types that group can produce, with a template selected for each.

What each group covers

Post is anything published to the main feed:

Link. A standard link post, where the network builds its own preview from the article.
Image. An image post, where Echobox generates the image from your template.
Carousel. A multi-slide post built from the article.
Video. A video taken from your feed.
Text. A text-only post with no image or video.

Story covers stories on the networks that support them:

Image. The image used for a story. Stories are always tall, so this template uses the Tall (9:16) ratio.

Reel covers short-form video:

Video. A video from your feed, published as a reel.
Instant Video. A video Echobox builds from the article.

Not every group appears on every Page. A Page only shows the post types its network supports, so you will see fewer options on some networks than others.

Choosing a template

Open the dropdown next to a post type and pick a template. You can choose any Echobox style, or any template you have built yourself.

Posts already in your queue are not affected. Each one keeps the template it was created with, so your change applies to posts created from that point on.

If you want a post that is already queued to use the new template, apply the template to that post directly in the Compose Box.

What happens if I leave one unset?

Nothing breaks. A post type with no template selected uses the Echobox style we set as the default for that network, so the Page keeps working.

This is worth knowing when you are rolling out a new design. You only need to change the post types you care about, and the rest carry on as they are.

Do I have to do this for every Page?

Each Page is set separately, so yes, if you want a specific template on a specific Page.

This is deliberate. Pages on the same property often need different designs, whether that is a different logo for a sub-brand, a different ratio for a different network, or a different tone of headline. Setting them per Page means one Page's change never affects another.

If you run many Pages and want the same template across all of them, select it on each. The template itself is shared, so editing it in Studio updates every Page using it at once.

Can I see what a template looks like before I choose it?

Yes. Each template in the dropdown shows a preview. For a fuller view, open the template in Studio, where you can see it rendered at full size with real article content.
