Integrate Echobox with your BI solution through the Data Connector

If you want to access your analytics data outside the Echobox platform, use the Echobox Data Connector.

You can use the Data Connector to build custom dashboards, combine Echobox data with any other non-Echobox data sources, or run your own analysis in tools such as Google Data Studio, Metabase, Looker, Tableau, Power BI or any other tool that supports Google BigQuery.

See here an example of a custom Google Data Studio report built on Echobox Social data, and here another report built from Echobox Email data.

What's the Data Connector?

The Data Connector gives your organization read-only access to a dedicated Google BigQuery dataset containing your Echobox data.

Google BigQuery is a cloud database designed for analytics. You do not need to use the BigQuery interface directly: in most cases, your BI tool connects to BigQuery and queries the data for you in the background.

Echobox manages BigQuery. Once we've configured the data connector for you, you can use your BI tool to query the available tables and build your own reports.

Data may be updated with a short delay and should not be considered real-time.

What data is available?

View this data dictionary listing every column available in the Data Connector, with a short definition for each.

Echobox Social: Shares

Each row in the data shared through the Data Connector represents an individual social media share from Echobox Social.

The data can be used to analyze information such as:

  • Social network and page
  • Share date and time
  • Share message and content
  • Echobox automation information
  • Impressions
  • Clicks
  • Reactions, comments and other engagement
  • Social pageviews
  • Property and page information

This is useful for creating custom social performance dashboards or combining Echobox Social performance with other analytics data.

Echobox Email: Edition analytics

One row represents an Edition in Echobox Email.

The data includes information such as:

  • Campaign and Edition
  • Send time
  • Number of recipients
  • Deliveries
  • Opens and unique opens
  • Clicks and unique clicks
  • Unsubscribes
  • Complaints
  • Bounces
  • Email subject
  • Property and campaign information

This dataset is normally the best choice for dashboards comparing the performance of campaigns and Editions over time.

Echobox Email: Event Log

The Event Log provides granular email activity on each subscriber.

Each row represents an individual subscriber event from Echobox Email, such as:

  • Send
  • Delivery
  • Open
  • Click
  • Bounce

Depending on the event, additional information may be available, including the recipient, campaign, Edition, email subject, clicked URL and event timestamp.

This dataset is intended for customers who need subscriber-level analysis or want to integrate Echobox Email activity into their own data warehouse or analytics pipelines.

Connecting your BI tool

Most BI tools include a native Google BigQuery connector.

The exact setup varies by tool, but the process is usually:

  1. Select Google BigQuery as a new database or data source in your BI tool.
  2. Authenticate using the Google account or Google Service Account that has been granted access to your Echobox dataset.
  3. Select the BigQuery project and dataset provided by Echobox.
  4. Select the tables you want to query.
  5. Start building your reports and dashboards.

For example, BI tools such as Metabase support connecting to BigQuery using Google Service Account JSON credentials.

Requesting access

Contact Echobox Support to request Data Connector access.

Please tell us:

  • Your organization name
  • Which data you would like access to:
    • Echobox Social: Shares
    • Echobox Email: Edition analytics
    • Echobox Email: Event Log

If you already have a Google Service Account

Send Echobox Support the Service Account email address.

We will configure the appropriate BigQuery permissions and provide you with the BigQuery Project ID and dataset details required by your BI tool.

If you do not have a Google Service Account

Echobox can create one for you.

We can then provide you with the Google Service Account JSON credentials required to authenticate from your BI tool.

These credentials should be treated like a password or API key. Store them securely and do not share them through unsecured email, chat, or documents.

Need help?

If you are unsure which dataset you need or whether your BI tool supports Google BigQuery, contact Echobox Support and tell us what you are trying to report on.

We can help determine the most appropriate setup for your organisation.

Other ways to access Echobox analytics data

If the BigQuery Data Connector is not the right fit for your organisation, Echobox can also provide analytics data in other ways.

Recurring CSV exports

This option is best if you want regular spreadsheet reports delivered on a schedule.

Tell us which metrics you need and how often you would like to receive them, and we can provide a CSV file on your preferred schedule.

To request recurring CSV exports, please contact Echobox Support.

Echobox Analytics API

This option is best if you want to retrieve Echobox analytics data programmatically, without connecting your BI tool directly to BigQuery.

You can use the Echobox Analytics REST API to query analytics data directly. API documentation, including the available metrics, can be found here.

Please note that API access is not included in our standard licence and is available for an additional fee.

You will also need an authentication token to access the API. To begin setup, please contact your Customer Success representative.
